Newcomerstown in the News: New urgent care facility opening on West State Street

NEWCOMERSTOWN - Family Urgent Care is opening a new location inside the Medi-Wise Pharmacy building at 245 W. State St.

The grand opening is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24 in the parking lot. The free “Fun Fair” will feature free food, raffle prizes, a bouncy castle and games. The event is free but requires a ticket by visiting https://familyuc.oneclinic.io.

Family Urgent Care has six other locations in Ohio, including Coshocton and Mount Vernon. Family Urgent Care is owned by Dr. Syed A. Naqvi, who has over 30 years experience in urgent care, emergency medicine and internal medicine.

Medi-Wise Pharmacy came to Newcomerstown in 2007 and is owned by Jeff Neidig, who sits on the ADHAMS Board of Tuscarawas County, Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition, Chamber of Commerce, Journey’s End Ministry Board, Trinity Twin City Hospital Foundation Board, Leadership Tuscarawas Board and Tuscarawas County Senior Service Network.

The Times-Reporter is discontinuing the “Memory Lane” feature that has appeared weekly in The Times-Reporter.

The Newcomerstown West School is planning a week of events for “Spirit Week” in preparation for Homecoming on Sept. 30.

Events will include Pajama Day on Sept. 26; Athlete or Mathlete Day, Sept. 27; Christmas in September, Sept. 28; Cowboy/Cowgirl Day, Sept. 29; Trojan Pride Day, Sept. 30, with dress in orange and black.

The Newcomerstown Youth League plans a Home Run Derby at 10 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Youth League fields off Neighbor Street.

Age groups will include 10 and younger, 11-12 and 13-14. The winner in each age group will receive a trophy and a $50 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Participants will get 10 swings for $10. Contestants may bring their own pitcher and bats, or a pitcher will be provided.

The Birds Run Community Church, 73007 Hopewell Road in Kimbolton, will have a Harvest Celebration from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 2.

There will be food and games from 5 to 6:15 p.m. with story telling by Chris Hart, living historian, at 6:15 p.m.

Food will include hot dogs, chips and ice cream sundaes. Games will include corn toss, ring toss and bingo with prizes. Hart’s stories will include a presentation of “Sleepy Hollow Revisited.” There will also be crafts for children and adults.

The event will be held rain or shine, with a freewill donation accepted.

Upcoming menus for Christ’s Kitchen at Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak St., include:

Sept. 19: Hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, applesauce and cake.

Sept. 26: Spaghetti, green beans, peaches and cookies.

Oct. 3: Chicken noodles, mashed potatoes, peas, applesauce and cake.

Tea, lemonade, coffee, macaroni and cheese and hot dogs are available for dine-in only.

Christ’s Kitchen is a faith-based outreach at Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak St. Meals are served for dine-in or take-out from 4-5:30 p.m. For more information or to order delivery, call 740-498-8134.

The Newcomerstown Public Library is hosting a cookbook sale Sept. 21-23. Patrons are invited to browse a large collection of cookbooks for sale during regular library hours.

Any group that organizes or sponsors an event in Newcomerstown can have that 2023 event put in the 2023 Tuscarawas County Event Guide if the following information is provided to the mayor’s office by Sept. 30: Event name and dates, host and contact person and phone, website or email.

The Newcomerstown Band program is reaching out to area residents who might have band instruments that they no longer use or need.

The band program is accepting donations of good, used instruments for the elementary and middle school music program.
