Microsoft has been consistently giving away Xbox Series Xs themed around current games and Battlefield 2042 is the newest to get the treatment.

Microsoft has been churning out game-themed Xbox Series X consoles for frequent giveaways and now Battlefield 2042 is the next to get the treatment. According to the official Xbox Twitter account, fans have a chance to win the themed Series X and controller by spending Microsoft Rewards points to gain entries in a random drawing.

The console in question has been outfitted with battle-damaged-looking green and grey plates as well as what looks like a radio receiver on its top half. The Battlefield 2042 logo on it ties the entire look together and makes this Xbox the perfect console for any die-hard Battlefield fan, but due to the nature of the contest, actually getting it might be far easier said than done.

Even if an entrant in the contest doesn't end up winning, there will likely be plenty of other limited-time custom Xbox Series X consoles for them to try and win in similar official contests. To list a few, Microsoft has already made custom edition consoles for games like Psychonauts 2, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, Far Cry 6, and Halo Infinite, so it seems like there's a good chance that more custom Series X consoles will be coming at some point in the future. Unfortunately, there's no way to know when more will be available or for what game they'll be themed around, so fans of Battlefield 2042 should try and get as many entries as they can in the current contest as this specific edition of the system likely won't be available again.

Battlefield 2042 has had some major ups and downs following its release last month. The game has been plagued with glitches and bugs that have almost been accepted as "the usual Battlefield affair" given how many issues are usually present in the shooters when they release. While those sorts of issues can be fixed over time as DICE continues forward with its update schedule, the core gameplay changes that 2042 brought to the series like the changes made to Specialists were controversial among fans and unlikely to be altered in subsequent updates.

Despite the controversies about how the game handles unique classes, rumors seem to suggest that the next Battlefield game will be a hero-shooter akin to games like Overwatch, Apex Legends, or Valorant. Given the changes in leadership across EA with Vince Zampella leaving his role as CEO of Respawn Entertainment, makers of Titanfall and Apex Legends, to be the head of Battlefield, it makes sense why this change in gameplay style would be implemented, but it's still to be seen how it goes over with fans.
