More than halfway through Moon Knight, things start to get weird for Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac). In addition to fighting with his other personality, Steven Grant (also Oscar Isaac), Marc has lost Khonshu's power, yet still needs to fight the villainous Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke). Plus, he's still at odds with his wife Layla, who seems to prefer Steven to Marc these days.

All that tension finally comes to a head in episode 4, when Steven and Layla break into a tomb Arthur is excavating and discover the voice of Ammit and steal it right before Harrow can. Unfortunately, due to Marc and Layla arguing, Harrow catches up to them and manages to corner Marc and shoot him twice in the chest.

When Marc comes to, he's in the hospital, although probably not the one he would've expected to wake up in after a typical medical emergency. He's in a mental facility, sedated and confused. Arthur Harrow isn't an evil villain, but his psychologist. Layla is another patient. Everything that happened before? It appears to be just a figment of his imagination. In fact, he can't even call up Steven, who usually appears in his reflection.

In the midst of his confusion, Marc falls out of a wheelchair and face-plants onto the floor. Thrown from his hand is a whimsical callback to his superhero days: an action-figure of Moon Knight.
