Switzerland-based board game publisher Treecer has announced that they are currently working on a tabletop version of Zoo Tycoon, with a Kickstarter campaign launching later this month. Although the creators have not specified an exact release date, the board game is planned to release sometime in 2023 should the crowdfunding campaign be successful.

The board game will include over 34 species from the video game. Treecer is launching the Kickstarter in the hopes that it will fund the development process. Those who are interested can click the button to be notified when it goes live. Marc Dür, co-founder of Treecer, who previously created Darwin's Choice, will take on the role of designer for their adaptation project.

"Build a zoo that focuses on marquee animals like Lions, Gorillas, or Elephants to attract and thrill guests. Or develop partnerships with National Parks on conservation and re-introduce endangered species back into the wild" reads the description of the prospective board game. As in the original game, players will be tasked with generating revenue and creating new opportunities to keep their zoo growing. They also have an abundance of options from which to select the animals which will be shown to visitors. Also planned to be included are small events which can shake up the direction of the game.

Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game will give players the freedom to create their zoo with over 34 species and food booths. Players will have to meet care requirements to generate more revenue, there will be focused on three metrics - popularity for visitors, educational value, and natural conversation. Replayability will come from the impact that changing supply and demand, as well as the aforementioned in-game events have on the direction of the game.

There is no word on when the board game will hit stores, but players will likely hear more from creators when the Kickstarter campaign launches this month. The remaster of the 2013 Zoo Tycoon game continues to be available on Steam.
